Whitehaus was awarded this project through open tender in April 2013. It is a joint venture designed by Whitehaus and built by the Wightman Building Company. The tender was won on the basis of a re-design by Whitehaus after identifying several issue with the design released as part of the tender. The new design took better advantage of the R-Codes to increase the living areas and outlook of the apartments, and orientated the buildings to reduce solar heat gain and increase thermal efficiency of the dwellings. We also proposed several alternatives for increasing the yield on the site, and carefully designed our submission to ensure a balance between quality and affordability.
The resulting design provides desirable and affordable living spaces, contributes positively to the built environment of South Hedland, and will be a robust and valuable addition to the town. Consideration of ongoing long term maintenance and running costs have been carried throughout the proposal to ensure a solid investment for the YMCA. We have focused on providing a development that represents value for money while maintaining a high level of quality design and workmanship.
